OUR CREATIVE
PROJECT
We believe that stronger communities help us be happier and more resilient. So our project is about coming together, sharing our stories and skills, encouraging and supporting each other as we create textile artworks.
Meet our team
Ann Poulsen
Project Leader
Ann is a well-know member of the creative community of west Auckland, having exhibited her work and been involved in community creative projects for nearly two decades. Working with local groups during lockdown, Ann came to realize that building community is a creative act we need in order to survive. She has launched Sew Happy to bring people together to meet their neighbours, make new friends and feel more connected as a community.
Lina Castro
Project Tutor
Originally from Colombia, where she trained as an industrial designer, Lina arrived here six years ago. Lockdown gave her time to continue developing her practice of contemporary embroidery, leading to Lina changing her career and becoming a community arts worker. Experienced in working with all ages and skill levels, Lina loves sharing her stitching skills to help our sewing bee members realize their ideas in fabric and thread.
